Maggi Dawn had an amusing meme on her blog earlier, you type your name and the word needs into Google with quotemarks round like this: "tim needs" and post the first results to your blog. For me the first page (with a few false positives culled) read:
- Tim needs a theme
- Tim needs your help ...
- Tim Needs a Shirt
- Tim needs help...
- All Tim needs is a patch into the main or house system. ...
- The answer to what Tim needs is family, friends, and just enough stuff to ...
- Tim, needs approving by Sheralee
- Good old Tim needs to do a little more research.
OK, I thought, how do I need help? And in keeping with the immediate and casual theme of a meme the item currently on my mind, and actually what I was really searching for on Google when Maggi interrupted is an MP3 player with large buttons and screen designed for the elderly (see below)... So can anyone help Tim? All together now "Tim needs an MP3 player for the elderly!"
BTW if you choose to run with this meme, could you please quote the phrase "Tim needs an MP3 player with large buttons" as I'd love to see that come up top on Google when some other Tim decides to try the meme! Who knows a manufacturer might see one of those posts and actually make one! ¶ 7:41 AM

The tales of woe are because of the new laptop, Robert insisted I had to have the same setup as "everyone" and as a result I first lost my data for 24 hours, now half my programs need to be reinstalled for the third time, and after all that my emails will not be backed up unless I do that manually, but unless I take the trouble to tell MS programs NOT to save in My Documents all my home videos are... In the meanwhile my diary will no longer back up to Outlok because the laptop thinks that Outlook has not been installed to be available for me!
May Bill Gates and his MSVirusXP rot! If things do not get better soon I will return the new laptop and go back to the old one, which at least worked when plugged into the mains.

Well, I know it's a couple of years down the line, but I've just googled "MP3 large buttons" and your post came up! And now I'm going to try out your google game - though it's my mum who needs a large-buttoned MP3 player, not me (why do they make them with such fiddly little buttons?).
hope the laptop woes sorted themselves!

Just a few weeks ago I posted on this topic again http://www.bigbible.org/blog/2008/01/seniors-and-gadgets.htm basically someone in the comments there pointed me to devices made for children (e.g. by Fisher Price) they are too expensive for my needs, bulk buy, but would probably suit your mother.
Paper Tigers looks like interesting and fun work!
I have semi-permanent laptop woes, my problems are that I drive them hard, both physically, using them all over the place, hope to take one to the refugee camp with me if possible, though usually nearer home ;) and software-wise (I am an inveterate tryer of different programs and trying also to do different things!
