Well, actually for .5% less than that! Yes apparently if you live in the USA you can buy a Bible for less than $2.0. The only catch is that you have to buy 24 of them. But at $47.76 the one you keep for yourself is not over expensive and the 23 you give away might change a life. I don't know about the Bible Society, but I do remember a while back Kim bought a large box of Bibles (30+) cheap from somewhere here in Auckland. Mostly NIV, I think with a smattering of NRSV, CEV and others thrown in as "freebies".
I'll ask here if she can remember where she got them from.

their cheapest CEV is A$5:95 either plain of Youth flavours. I've emailed the Bible Soc in NZ but it's not yet work hours and I am teaching six hours today...
UK cheapest seems to be retail at £5.50 http://www.bibleresources.org.uk/pages/data.asp?shop=BS&mfg=BS&returnto=lastsearch&layout=books.htm&category.like=.cev but they may have a cheaper "give away" price I missed.
